Char Dham Yatra 2023: Opening dates for Tungnath and Madmaheshwar Announced
The opening dates for the second and third Kedar temples have been announced for the year 2023. The second Kedar, Madmaheswar, will open on May 22, while the third Kedar, Tungnath, will open on April 26. The gates of both temples will open at 10:50 am.
Out of the Panch Kedar temples, only Kalpeshwar remains open throughout the year, while the remaining 4 close down for the winter and open during April-May each year.
The opening and closing of the doors of the Kedarnath, Madmaheshwar, and Tungnath temples are decided based on auspicious days each year. The opening dates of Madmaheswar and Tungnath temples have been announced on the Baisaki festival Sankranti for centuries.
This year, the announcement for the opening dates of Madmaheshwar and Tungnath was made on April 14, Friday, during the Baisakhi holiday. The date and time were determined with the help of an almanac in the Markandeshwar temple in Makkumath for Tungnath and Omkareshwar temple in Ukhiamath for Madmaheshwar, the winter seats of these temples.
The Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand will commence on April 22, 2023, Akshaya Tritiya, when Gangotri Dham and Yamunotri Dham will open their doors to the devotees with proper rituals.
